Where can I buy sparkling cider?
You can buy sparkling cider from cider makers and their web shops, specialist cider and wine shops, supermarkets and cider bars. First check which kind you want: alcoholic sparkling cider, such as French cidre bouché or bottle-conditioned craft cider, or a non-alcoholic sparkling apple juice that is also sold as "sparkling cider".

- Check the alcohol first. "Sparkling cider" can mean an alcoholic cider with bubbles or a non-alcoholic sparkling apple drink; is sparkling cider alcoholic explains how to tell. Alcoholic ciders show their strength on the label.
- Carbonation levels. BJCP 2025 says "Highly carbonated is termed sparkling", while moderate carbonation is called pétillant. [1] See the glossary entry for sparkling.
- In the UK. For duty, "sparkling cider" means a container with 3 bar or more of excess pressure, or one closed with a mushroom stopper held by a tie. [2]
- In France. A cidre labelled "bouché" must have "une teneur en anhydride carbonique au moins égale à 3 grammes par litre" (at least 3 g/l of carbon dioxide) and come in a sparkling-wine type bottle with a mushroom cork. [3]
Where can I buy sparkling cider?
- Cider makers. Many makers sell bottle-fermented or bottle-conditioned cider from their own shop or website.
