Where is perry made?

Perry, the traditional pear cider, has its historic home in England's Three Counties (Herefordshire, Gloucestershire and Worcestershire), where perry pears have been grown for over 400 years, according to the Herefordshire Perry PGI. Wales, Normandy's Domfrontais and pear-growing parts of Austria, Switzerland and Germany also have perry traditions, and craft perry is made in North America.

Perry regions

Herefordshire, Gloucestershire and Worcestershire (England). The Herefordshire Perry PGI says perry pear production "has been known in the West Midlands for over 400 years", specifically in these counties and part of Monmouthshire. [1] All three have a protected perry name. [2] [3] [4]
Wales. Traditional Welsh Perry is a UK PGI. [5]
Normandy (France). Domfront is a French AOP for perry (poiré), made with more than 40% Plant de Blanc pears. [6]
Austria, Switzerland and southern Germany. Fermented pear juice is called Birnenmost; see the glossary entry for most.
North America and elsewhere. BJCP's perry styles cover table-pear perry (Common Perry) and perry-pear perry (Heirloom Perry), and note that English examples tend to be drier than French ones. [7]
