Where can I buy pear cider?
Pear cider, traditionally called perry, is easiest to find from makers in pear-growing regions, especially Herefordshire, Gloucestershire, Worcestershire and Wales in the UK, and Domfront in Normandy. Buy from the maker's farm shop or website, or from specialist cider shops. In the UK, "pear cider" on a label doesn't tell you the pear juice content.

Key facts
- What it is. Perry is made from fermented pear juice; how it differs from "pear cider" on a label is explained in perry vs pear cider.
- Protected perries. Gloucestershire Perry, Herefordshire Perry, Worcestershire Perry and Traditional Welsh Perry are UK PGIs. [1] [2] [3] [4]
- France has one perry AOP. Domfront is the only French AOP given to a perry (poiré); it requires more than 40% Plant de Blanc pears and gets its sparkle naturally in the bottle. [5]
- US labelling. A wine of 7% ABV or more made wholly from pears must be called "perry" or "pear wine", not "pear cider". [6]
- UK labelling. For duty, perry and pear cider fall under the same definition of cider: at least 35% apple or pear juice, which may come from concentrate. [7]
Where can I find perry near me?
- Pear regions. Makers in the UK's Three Counties and Wales, and in Normandy's Domfrontais, often make perry alongside cider.
- Makers' own shops. Perry is made in small volumes and is often sold mainly from the farm or website.
- Specialist shops and festivals. They are good places to try several perries side by side.
